Thank you for your interest in the Bilingual Medical Assistant Course for English Language Learners offered by LaGuardia Community College, the New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (NYACH), and the NYC Department of Small Business Services!
This intensive, year-long evening and weekend course is designed to train high intermediate English language learners to become certified as medical assistants, improve their English language skills, and obtain employment in the New York City healthcare sector. The course is free of charge for eligible New York City residents.
Requirements for students:
-Must be 18 years of age or older. -Must be an English language learner. -Must be a New York City resident (within 5 boroughs). -Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and meet all federal Selective Service requirements. -Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. -Must be available to attend all evening and Saturday sessions (12 months coursework; 3 months internship). -Must be able to commute to course locations in Washington Heights (Manhattan) and Long Island City (Queens) -Must be interested in a career in the healthcare sector. -Must currently earn $30,000 or less per year as an individual.

Are you available to study in the evenings four nights a week (MTWTh) from 6:00-10:00 pm in Winter 2019?
Are you also available to study on Saturdays from Spring 2020 to Fall 2020?
Can you commute to locations in Washington Heights (Uptown Manhattan) and to Long Island City (Queens) for classes?
Do you have any experience working in healthcare?
Do you have any experience working in customer service or with the public?
Are you interested in working in a medical office taking blood samples, monitoring electrocardiograms, and speaking to patients?
Are you comfortable using a computer to navigate the internet and use Microsoft Word documents?
