Welcome

The Honors Program is designed to enhance the LaGuardia experience for highly motivated students. We are looking for students who want the most out of college and who desire stimulating academic challenges.

LaGuardia’s growing Honors Program is designed to promote a rigorous academic experience for talented, intellectually curious, motivated, and ambitious students (full- or part-time, day or evening).

Honors courses emphasize critical thinking, intensive analytical writing, speaking, research skills, including the use of primary source material, and information literacy.

One of the fundamental goals of the Honors Program is to promote transfer, with scholarship when possible, to leading public and private 4-year colleges.

Benefits

  • Smaller, rigorous classes with highly motivated students, and taught by dedicated faculty, who strive to engage you in more challenging academic work and are always ready to support you.

  • Scholarly and networking activities, intensive transfer and scholarship workshops, and special internship placements.
  • Participation in on-campus projects to develop your leadership experience.
  • Membership in the Honors Student Advisory Committee (HSAC). No fee is required.

Honors Student Advisory Committee (HSAC)

The Honors Student Advisory Committee (HSAC) is the dynamic student arm of the Honors Program. Since its establishment in 2010, it has programmed highly successful events for all LaGuardia students on the topics such as Transfer, Scholarship, Student Research and Civic Engagement.

HSAC members are focused campus student leaders who—because of demonstrated service to the Program and the college—are eligible for opportunities to attend national and regional conferences, like the annual conventions of the  National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC)  and the Northeast Regional Honors Council(NRHC). Past HSAC members have received awards such as NCHC’s Student of the Year Award, NCHC’s Best Student Research Poster Prize, the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship, been elected to the NRHC Executive Board, served as class speakers at commencement, presented their research at scholarly conferences, and transferred to selective 4-year colleges.

HSAC leaders can be found in Honors House (M222), where they hold peer advisement hours and work together to organize numerous academic and civic engagement activities for all of their LaGuardia peers.
