  • Health Alert: Coronavirus MONKEYPOX INFORMATION

CUNY recently announced that the vaccine mandate will end on the last day of the Spring 2023 semester. For more information click here.

    Updated Vaccine Information for 2022

Students are required to submit proof of MMR vaccinations and complete the meningitis response form in CUNYfirst. Students taking in-person or hybrid courses must also submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

CDC-approved vaccination and booster shot are required. Get more information about the COVID-19 vaccination requirement, and complete the necessary steps before coming to campus.

The State of New York requires all students born on or after January 1, 1957 to present proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) to attend college. Please submit this information in CUNYfirst.

Acceptable proof of immunization must include two doses of measles vaccine and one dose of mumps and rubella vaccine. All students, both degree and non-degree, who register for six or more tuition units, must comply with this law. Students who are not in compliance with all immunization requirements will be excluded from classes and given an administrative withdrawal grade for all classes.

    How to submit MMR documentation:

    1. Complete the MMR immunization form and upload in CUNYfirst - watch how.
    2. Email health-center@lagcc.cuny.edu to confirm your submission.

All colleges are required to distribute information about meningococcal meningitis and vaccination to all students, regardless of age. Students are required to sign and submit a record of the immunization within the past five years or a meningitis response form to demonstrate receipt of the meningococcal disease and vaccine information.

How to complete the form and submit documentation:
    1. Log into CUNYfirst to complete the meningitis response form – see instructions.
    2. If you choose the first option on the form, submit your vaccine record with the date of your vaccination. ( watch how to upload documents in CUNYfirst.)

Note: The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that all first-year college students up to age 21 years should have at least one dose of Meningococcal ACWY vaccine not more than 5 years before enrollment, preferably on or after their 16th birthday, and that young adults aged 16 through 23 years may choose to receive the Meningococcal B vaccine series. College and university students should discuss the Meningococcal B vaccine with a healthcare provider.

For more information about meningococcal disease and vaccination, contact Health Services or your family physician, or find out more from the New York State Department of Health.

Do I have to submit immunization/vaccination records?
All students, both degree and non-degree, must submit an immunization record before being able to register for classes. LaGuardia Community College requires proof of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) immunity as well as a completed Meningitis Response form.

What should I do if I don’t have proof of immunization?
If you don’t have proof but you have had the MMR shots in the past, you can get a blood test and have your doctor fill out this immunization form. Additionally, if you graduated high school in New York State, you can get a copy from your high school. If you are an NYC public high school graduate, LaGuardia can access your high school immunization record, which can be used as an acceptable form of proof of immunization.

Can I transfer my immunization to/from another CUNY School?
If you are transferring from another CUNY school, LaGuardia’s Health Center will be able to look up your immunization records in CUNYfirst. Other CUNY colleges can see your LaGuardia information as well.

Can the immunization requirement be waived based on a medical or religious exemption?
Medical or religious exemptions must be filed 30 days prior to the start of classes. Please contact the Health Services Center at Health-Center@lagcc.cuny.edu for more information. Note: Request exemptions early, so your course registration is not delayed.

Am I required to get the meningococcal meningitis vaccination?
The meningococcal meningitis vaccination is not a requirement. However, submitting the meningitis response form is required. The purpose of the form is simply to establish that you received information on the meningococcal disease and the available vaccine.

Who do I tell if I test positive for COVID-19?
Please review the guidelines for reporting positive cases.
