College Now is CUNY’s largest school-college partnership with the New York City DOE. College Now is a dual enrollment program embedded in 18 CUNY colleges and over 400 NYC high schools and enrolling over 20,000 students annually. The program offers NYC public high school students both transferable college credit courses which are aligned with first year study at CUNY, and pre-college courses and activities designed to increase academic readiness for college and promote knowledge and awareness of the college-going process. LaGuardia’s College Now program seeks to facilitate the high school-college transition by preparing high school students to meet CUNY benchmarks and to be academically successful and socially integrated in college. Most of our classes are held at our partner high schools. We also offer college classes on campus through our Campus Cohort program. Students who earn a minimum of two B’s in College Now courses are permitted to take regular LaGuardia courses through our College Connection program.
Myself Third: Spirit of New York Scholarship The Myself Third scholarship program has been made possible through a generous gift provided by City College alumnus, Robert Friedman. It was established in 2002 in tribute to those who participated in the rescue effort following the World Trade Center tragedy. The purpose of the program is to encourage and reward civic involvement of high school students. The competition is open to New York City public high school seniors who have completed at least one college credit course in the College Now Program. ONE (1), one-time award of $10,000 will be awarded to a CUNY-bound student enrolling in either an associates or baccalaureate degree program at any of CUNY’s 17 undergraduate colleges on a full-time basis. For more information, please visit the the Myself Third Scholarship page./
The Arlene Kahn Scholarship The Arlene Kahn Scholarship is open to students graduating high school who have completed at least one credit-bearing course through LaGuardia’s COLLEGE NOW or COLLEGE CONNECTION program, and who have chosen to begin attending LaGuardia Community College in the Fall. The Arlene Kahn Scholarship was established in January 2006, in memory of College Now’s devoted director. Dr. Kahn advocated tirelessly for students and sought to infuse all their learning experiences with reading and writing instruction in order to prepare them for the demands of academic life.
