Job Title: Multicultural Exchange Program Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Student Life Manager of the Multicultural Exchange which comprises two peer mentoring programs (BMEC & CREAR Futuros). The Multicultural Exchange is currently looking for a highly organized Program Assistant to join the team. The Program Assistant will support all administrative components of the Multicultural Exchange to ensure effective function of both programs.

Black Male Empowerment Cooperative (BMEC) is a project of the CUNY Black Male Initiative (BMI), whose mission is to increase, encourage and support the inclusion and educational success of students from groups that are severely underrepresented in higher education, in particular African, African-American/Black, Caribbean and Latino/Hispanic males.

CREAR Futuros is an initiative of the Hispanic Federation (HF) that is committed to change and impact first-year, first-generation student college access, retention and graduation.

This position includes handling all logistics for the Multicultural Exchange, all scheduled training, programs and events. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

JOB DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs basic administrative duties such as answering phones, responding to emails, filing, data entry and managing schedules, while also assisting in budget oversight for events and event planning. Respond within 48-hours to each email and/or phone call.
  • Attend and supervise BMEC mentors during training (August) and quarterly meetings; and attend HF training with CREAR mentors (2-3 consecutive days in August) and monthly meetings (first Friday of every month);
  • Coordinate semester events/workshops and handle logistics for all workshops/events
  • Create and submit paperwork as needed which includes catering requests, multimedia and room requests, set up SEMS event, Design flyer and get approval from Marketing, create sign-in sheets and submit after the event, etc.
  • Facilitate ideas and assist with creating programs/workshops for the students in the program along with the mentors
  • Create event flyers, agendas, with event content
  • Meet with mentors of the program to support their work and assist as needed
  • Assist mentors with paperwork, case notes, and with mentees
  • Assist in pairing of mentors to mentees
  • Record student attendance at program workshops/events via SEM’s
  • Manage and supervise the program office; Maintain and organize office and supply inventory
  • Update social media networks for the Program
  • Take minutes at regular Staff/Team and other meetings
  • Assist in the coordination and tracking of mentees, mentor case notes 
  • Schedule meetings and/or interviews as needed
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff and mentors by providing them with the necessary documents and materials
  • Performs other related duties in accordance with instructions from the Student Life Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
 

An Associates degree and at least 2 years with administrative support or equivalent experience; or a Bachelors degree with one year of administrative support, or equivalent experience.

Job Title: Senior Human Resources Generalist

General Description

This is an administrative non-tax levy related entities staff position reporting to the Executive Director of Human Resources (HR), exercising independent judgment in the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities assigned. This position is responsible for supporting the administration of all time and leave, benefits, onboarding and offboarding for the non-tax levy entities including Research Foundation of CUNY (RFCUNY), LaGuardia Community College Association, LaGuardia Community College Auxiliary, and the Early Childhood Learning Center. The Senior HR Generalist will work on other HR-related projects for staff hired for and paid by the non-tax levy entities and may supervise staff as required.

POSITION DETAILS

The Senior HR Generalist will assist with the administration and coordination of employment services for each respective non-tax levy entity. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Functions as a liaison to the RFCUNY Human Resources Department (RF-HR) in support of the College’s management team responsible for recruitment and other talent acquisition needs related to grants and other initiatives supported by funds at the Research Foundation of CUNY. Consults frequently with RF-HR to ensure consistency in information provided to employees and to ensure accuracy in all processes.

· Prepares and executes various personnel transactions involving employee recordkeeping (including the I-9 maintenance, performance evaluations, and other personnel file documents), processing of new hires, pay administration within ADP Workforce Now, and benefits management (in consultation with the external benefits broker and TIAA representatives).

· Conducts routine onboarding or other training sessions for compliance and operational effectiveness purposes; designs information packages for employees as needed; assists with the coordination of onboarding activities as part of the College’s HR Department’s standards of operation; processes “person of interest” (i.e POI) documents and enters accurate data into CUNYFirst.

· Processes or assists with the processing of time and leave including annual, sick, unscheduled holiday, FMLA, Workers Compensation, and Paid Family Leave (PFL) according to the policies and procedures of each related entity; processes new hire payroll and benefit entries in ADP Workforce Now and TIAA CUNY portal.

· Reviews and proofreads job descriptions, prepares job postings, and coordinates advertisements for job searches; reviews and responds to applicants’ emails, screens resumes, prepares job offers, and closes searches; creates various reports in order to track recruitment and personnel action processes.

· Creates, collects, and organizes the documentation required for the performance evaluation and employment separation processes; provides general assistance with management of the performance appraisal process.

· Facilitates and attends meetings on behalf of the College or related entity; maintains frequent contact with related entity leadership regarding HR issues, and consults with the College’s Executive Director of HR regarding resolutions.

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of HR or designee.

Qualifications

· A Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and three (3) years administrative, progressively responsible experience in human resources, of which at least one (1) year entailed working with state or local government processes, preferably in a higher education or non-profit organization, and at least one (1) year supervising the work of others in a related area.

· A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and four (4) years administrative, progressively responsible experience in human resources, of which at least one (1) year entailed working with state or local government processes, preferably in a higher education or non-profit organization, and at least one (1) year supervising the work of others in a related area.

· Expertise in ADP Workforce Now and processing bi-weekly payroll.

· Excellent math, verbal communication and business writing skills.

· Knowledge of current federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

· Highly detail oriented and organized.

· Ability to operate calmly under high stress situations

· Excellent computer skills (experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required).

LaGuardia Community College Athletics & Recreation is looking to hire a qualified recreation assistant. A recreation assistant is the primary, entry-level operational part-time position, which reports directly to the Assistant Recreation Coordinator(s). The primary objective of the position is to provide support to the daily operations and activities of the department’s gymnasium and fitness center.

Under the direction of the Intramurals and Sports Administration Coordinator, the Assistant Coordinator of Campus Recreation will assist with, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Assist the Department in supervising and executing all events and activities;
  • Assure the proper condition and operation of all department facilities (fitness center, gymnasium, locker rooms, showers, storage/equipment rooms, office space, etc.) either by personal intervention or by securing the services of the appropriate college department;
  • Explain and enforce all College and departmental rules and regulations for students, staff and community members;
  • Be knowledgeable of and able to clearly communicate to our public the current Athletics & Recreation schedule and all upcoming events;

The College Laboratory Technician will work under the supervision of the department chair in the health sciences department and will be responsible for the operational coordination of the Veterinary Technology Center (VTC). Duties Include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Assist with the organization and maintenance of the Vet Tech Center. Includes assisting/providing medical care, detailed and consistent record-keeping, set-up/break-down of teaching lab classes, health checks, husbandry, and other related duties.

- Supervision, training and evaluation of students during husbandry care.

- Assist with the maintenance, trouble-shoot and use of equipment including radiological, surgical, anesthetic, environmental, and regulatory/safety equipment.

- Ensures compliance with all government (federal, state, local) and internal regulatory agencies, as they relate to the operation of the VTC.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**

- Current NYS licensed veterinary technician (LVT) and a graduate of an AVMA-accredited program in Veterinary Technology

- Minimum of two years’ experience as a LVT; one year supervisory experience

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others for the good of the institution

- Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Experience with organizational tasks, computerized record keeping, controlled drugs and inventory

- Flexible work hours required

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds

**COMPENSATION**

$31.22 - $45.11
