What makes this major unique?

The Fine Arts and Fine Arts (Design option) degrees provide a balanced approach to theory and practice. Our students receive a hands-on education that offers unlimited opportunities to develop as creative thinkers. Our curriculum is structured around a combination of pedagogies which include integrative and Learner-centered. Art is intertwined with many disciplines. It is not a coincidence that our former students are not only working as artists but as art directors, art handlers, art assistants, art educators, graphic designers, illustrators, animators, art therapists, and fashion designers. Others have completed BFA and MFA programs at top-rated senior colleges, some receiving full scholarships.

Career Possibilities

Taking advantage of our location in Long Island City and proximity to the artistic hub that is NYC, our students are exposed to art from a global international lens. Students have the opportunity of internships in such world-renowned institutions as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Folk Art Museum. Moreover, various stipends and scholarships, such as the Joseph Scholarship, allow students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of taking two workshops in Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado, an internationally acclaimed art space. Semester-long Mural internships, where alums and current students collaborate with faculty and staff in creating an artistic space that reflects the diversity of our community, put our students at the forefront of the artmaking process from its inception to completion. Thus, our program equips students with the experiential learning opportunities and practical skills they will need to succeed academically and professionally.
